Young Japanese
writer Yoko, who has just come back from Taiwan
for researching the life of a musician, finds
out that she is pregnant by a Taiwanese whom
she does not want to marry. Yoko's parents urge
her to marry though her father is uncommunicative
in spite of his wife's best efforts to get him
to open up. During this difficult time she befriends
the owner of a secondhand bookstore, Hajime.
They meet often in coffee shop, make small talks
and enjoy the passing scenes. He is startled
and confused when he learns about Yoko's situation.
Café Lumiére is easy to be distinguished as the
film that Ozu would have made if he lived in
the modern age. The pace deliberately slow, the
film painstakingly detailed and beautifully shot,
allowing us to view the world the characters
inhabit, providing extraordinary details of a
calm Tokyo life.

Solitary married middle-age actor meets unhappy married young woman in a place
neither of them is familiar with, and suddenly
realize that they're all the other has got –
at least for the time being. Sofia Coppola takes
what should be the premise for a typical encounter
and turns it into something that anyone who has
ever experienced an emotion of any description
can watch and appreciate. The relationship builds
in intensity until the wonderfully satisfying
conclusion - which nobody will disagree, except
to say that it is at once both heartbreaking
and exquisitely affirming.

Scoutmen
could be defined as the agent to recruit
girls off
the streets for adult video (AV). Don't be
amazed of the dialogues between the scoutmen
and the
girls on the street – direct, not embarrassed
and like dealing the price of a product. A
young couple elopes and come to live
in Tokyo. Once
they burn out their savings, they start to
seek a job and the man comes to know
a group of young
scoutmen and gets hired as one of them. Through
their encounter with these people, the couple's
beliefs and values are shaken. The movie looks
straight into one of the most notorious corners
of Japan's enormous pornographic industry where
girls sell their bodies like common goods,
while overworked salarymen get off weird fetishes
on
the girls.

An elderly couple arrives in the metropolis to visit their children and grandchildren.
They feel guilty about troubling their hosts,
and sad about being neglected by them. In the
course of the trip, the old couple becomes aware
of both the virtues and vanities of their offspring.
Shortly after returning home, the wife dies.
Tokyo Story displays Ozu's unique style—low camera
height, 180-degree cuts and steady (even static)
camera movements which creates a quiet world
against which his characters' personalities stand
out. Tokyo Story may consist only of a minimal
plot drive, but it carries to a limit of Ozu's
faith that provides more than common drama to
engage us deeply.
