中國人講求食得招積，法國人則要食得舒適，寧可花三個鐘吃頓飯也不問世事。布紐爾晚年作品，收歛《一條安德魯犬》的年少氣盛創意澎湃，以超然的智慧向布爾喬亞送上一記耳光。六個上等人想享受一頓盛宴，偏偏每次都出岔子，原因更是一次比一次荒謬︰約錯時間、忙於做愛、遇襲、發惡夢……幽默的吹水對白，超現實式笑位仍然通行，兼且帶著活地亞倫式的設計，毋怪乎受奧斯卡青睞，榮獲最佳外語片殊榮。

The film centers on a group of six outwardly respectable upper-middle class members of society and their repeatedly thwarted attempts to have a good quality meal together. As the film progresses, the interruptions to the dinner become more and more surreal: death of a neighbor, a wrong meeting time, or even an unbelievable attack. This later work of Buñuel is still a great satire on the wealthy but witless French bourgeoisie. Buñuel uses the film's narrative framing devise to belittle his characters by presenting us with a mannered film that refuses to commit to its attack – leading characters around the houses for a dance under the maypole but never offering us anything is the way of real bite.
