Love
triangle is one of the most favorite subjects among creators
in any media. Be they from Asia or the west, contemporary
or the past, this common theme always comes close with the
changes in the society, providing the creators with a source
of inspiration to give life to a number of unforgettable
characters or intriguing plotlines such as the feminist Catherine
in Jules and Jim, the new concept of family in Twinkle. Love triangle and social consciousness
always go hand in hand.

Best
friends Hana and Alice both develop a strong crush on
Miyamoto, whom they notice at the train station. Following
him home one day, Hana witnesses Miyamoto passes out.
When he wakes up, Hana tells Miyamoto that he suffers
from amnesia and she is in fact his girlfriend! While
Miyamoto really falls for Alice, Hana convinces him that
Alice is only his ex-girlfriend. The dreamy poetic quality
of the film has become a Shunji Iwai signature; and as
with all of his works, his characters are anything but
ordinary, even though they may be JUST a bunch of school kids.

Jules
et Jim, the classical, painfully moving story about uncompromising friendship and uncontrollable
love - not so much unrequited as undeserving and unfulfilled.
Jeannes Moreau gives her best performance as Catherine,
a character that one either loves or hates, but definitely
not one to be forgotten. Truffaut displays many of
the directing techniques that made his films stand
out from those he'd written about as a critic - jump
cuts, freeze frames, a narration, and masking off parts
of the screen. And as is typical for Truffaut, his
characters enjoy the arts, whether its cinema, theatre, literature or music.

Shoko,
a translator with a drinking problem, and Matsuki,
a handsome gay doctor, decide to come together in a
marriage of convenience to satisfy their parents. All
semblances of normalcy break down when Matsuki's student
boyfriend becomes jealous, Shoko decides she wants
a baby, and her parents find out about their son-in-law's
homosexuality. The film is less a realistic exploration
of gay life than a fairy tale of three young Japanese
trying to construct an alternative to the sexual and
familial roles given to them by a society turning increasingly emotionally barren.

Jimi
of boredom的呆滯。
The
time is 1968. While on the streets of Paris there is unrest
brewing, behind closed doors, American student Matthew
and French siblings Theo and Isabelle are playing games
that move from cinema-love to sex. Bertolucci, who was
in Paris during the 1968 rebellion, has a voracious, contagious
affection for that extraordinary blip in time and for the
idealism of youth. The film is also appealing as a celebration
of cinema, both as a mode of new thinking, à la French
New Wave, and as a refuge from the rest of the world. Clips and tributes enrich the action, with everyone from Jean-Luc
Godard to Greta Garbo joining the parade.
