Enayat
and Jamal are Afghan refugees who live in
a camp
in Peshawar, the capital of Afghanistan. They
plan an escape to Great Britain with the help
of people smugglers. Their dangerous journey
leads them along the "silk road" through Pakistan, Iran and Turkey towards London. They don't know another analogous
tragedy of Dover port will happen in the container
they hide in. Michael Winterbottom's docudrama
is not just a road movie but a human document
of urgency and commitment that allows us to experience
the humanity of the people some contemptuously
refer to as refugees. It steers clear of direct
politics, but it is clearly a slap on the recent
hardening of European immigration policies.

Sea Inside is a story of Spaniard Ramón Sampedro, a quadriplegic who fought a
30-year campaign to win the right of euthanasia.
The film explores Ramón's relationships with
two women: Julia, a lawyer who supports his cause,
and Rosa, a local woman who wants to convince
him that life is worth living. Through his love,
these two women are inspired to accomplish things
they never previously thought possible. Despite
his wish to die, Ramón taught everyone to encounter
the meaning, value and preciousness of life.
Though he could not move physically, he had an
uncanny ability to move others. The director
imposes a neutral value judgments allowing each
character full range to express his or her feelings
effectively and, at times, movingly. Winner of
Best Foreign Language Film at this year's Academy
Award.

When people
die, they have to spend a week with counselors
to choose a session of memory which they can
take to eternity. They describe the memory to
the staff who works with a crew to film it and
screen it at week's end. Twenty two dead arrive
that week, assigned to three counselors and a
trainee. For some the choice is easy and they
are instantly able to provide the moment. And
those who are unable to find their perfect moment
need extra help to recall past loves and lost
days of their youth. Combining documentary reflections
with perfectly works of actors, the film's tone,
style and performances are simple yet immensely
powerful.

要不是《希臘三部曲》劇本太吸引，本片可能已成為安哲羅普洛斯下山之作。秉承希臘哲人的理性，畫面卻不失詩化，廣為人所認識的長鏡頭運用氣定神閒，堪稱到達意識流電影的極致。詩人苦於一生人未有代表作，展開創作之旅時遇上聰明小人蛇，從他身上投射出自己的影子，結局更是教人對這位殿堂級導演的過人創造力而讚嘆。康城影展金棕櫚及評審團大獎得主。
A dying author spends his final days reminiscing on what he sees as a failed
life. His time spent wandering the gloom is interspersed
with flashbacks of his wife and their home near
the sea. In his wanderings around the city he
meets an Albanian refugee child and the two share
a few moments of friendship before each goes
on to his destiny. Angelopoulos never intends
to be the director who is just there to entertain
you, but Eternity and a Day is easily the most "accessible" film he's yet made. Nevertheless, the film remains powerful and haunting in
the manner of Angelopoulos' best works
