And Your Mother Too is a blending of a road movie, love triangle, and coming of age tale, with two teenagers (Tenoch and Julio) and an older beautiful woman in the spotlight. With their girlfriends away from home, the boys lure beautiful Luisa away on a trip during which they discover things about themselves and each other that they least expected. Between earlier works in Hollywood and subsequent successes (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Paris Je’taime ), Alfonso Cuarón returned to his roots and made this vibrant and intelligent film which smashed all box office records in Mexico.

Set in a crumbling children's home recently reopened by ex-resident Laura, The Orphanage begins its assault after Laura's adopted son Simón vanishes. Simón has been telling stories about imaginary friends in the spooky building, and his disappearance seems to prove that he's been spirited away by malevolent ghosts. Laura thus embarks on a quest to retrieve him, an attempt that will push her to the limit of sanity. Produced by Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth), this first feature of Juan Antonio Bayona is haunting, heartbreaking and regarded as one of the most beautiful horror films in recent years.

As an escape from her stepfather's cruelty, Ofelia retreats into her fairy tale world where she is a princess of the underworld, where she must complete three tasks before the next full moon to prove her worthiness of the title…Dark, dreamlike and dangerous, Guillermo del Toro's (well-known for Mimic and Hellboy) film is a fairytale that is at the same time scary and moving, achieved with the help of mesmerizing set design and special effects.

Having been impressed by Babel and 21 Grams, you might want to see Amores Perros, the Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu’s debut feature, which evolve around three stories: Octavio who plans to run away with his sister-in-law Susana; Daniel, whose dream of a rosy life is shattered after a car crash leaves his supermodel lover crippled and jobless; Chivo who, after years of abandonment, yearns for a reunion with his family. A showcase of gritty filmmaking, the film keeps viewers’ interest, despite the fact that there really is no character that we can like, root for or sympathize with.
