應亮是中國新生代獨立導演中最被看好的一個，六年前因拍攝議題 敏感的《我還有話要說》，不僅遭大陸禁映，還被禁足滯留香港，當上 流亡導演。《自由行》是他做回自己後充滿半自傳色彩的漂泊創作，劇 情描述女導演楊樞因拍攝電影被禁，五年來無法回國，一家三口只好留在香港。可惜，身在四川的母親胃癌復發，楊樞為了能與母親在做手術前聚首，於是安排母親參加台灣團體旅行，而自己與香港丈夫帶著四歲的兒子藉參加電影節的機會來台，希望四人能在高雄團聚，但過程中母親被嚴密監控，無法離隊。《我還有話要說》羅迦諾影后耐安與宮哲扮演分隔的母女，感情細膩動人。

The exiled dissident filmmaker distills the complicated feelings of trauma, anger, sorrow, displacement, frustration and resignation into A Family Tour and a protagonist whose pain and experiences mirror his own. When Yang Shu is invited to a Taiwan film festival, she grabs the chance to see her mother again. Her supportive husband, a Hong Kong native, arranges for her mom to travel from Sichuan to Taipei on a strictly monitored sightseeing tour. While tagging along the loud tour, the family quietly reunites for a short and most likely last time.
