據說中國北方的滿洲里，有一隻終日席地而坐的大象。一個錯手殺了人的男孩、一個離家出走的女孩、一個混幫派的男人與一個被遺棄的老人，四個陷入人生困 境的小人物都想乘搭開往滿洲里的列車，為的是看席地而坐的大象和救贖自己。長達4小時電影以銳利的風格刻畫著人生的虛無。《大象席地而坐》是胡波執導的 首部長片，亦是他最後一部電影。胡波在電影完成前結束了自己29年的生命，他留下的是世人的遺憾和一部經典。

Hailed as an instant classic on the festival circuit, An Elephant Sitting Still is the first and sadly last feature film from writer/director Hu Bo. The 29 year-old Hu tragically took his own life during the film’s post-production. Running four hours, this elegant and moving drama follows four individuals in China as they seek a modicum of solace in this broken world. As their lives crumble over the course of a single day, the four are drawn towards the northern city of Manzhouli, where an elephant sits in a zoo, refusing to eat or move, as if stunned into stillness by the indifferent cruelty of existence.

Two children wander through a desolate landscape and stumble upon a corpse in this bleak, uncompromising short from the late Hu Bo. The short was instructed by Hungarian filmmaker Bela Tarr and it received a high praise from the master.
