Not history but HerStory. Director Min Kyu-dong shares the powerful true stories of the courageous former comfort women who sued the Japanese government in the nineties. After hearing Kim Hak-sun’s watershed 1991 testimony about her experiences as a sex slave during WWII, Busan travel agent Moon sets up a hotline to find other victims. In the process, she discovers that her housekeeper Bae was a comfort woman. With Moon’s help, Bae and 9 other plaintiffs file a lawsuit in Japan. Over 6 years and 23 hearings, they confront their shame and trauma and tell their devastating stories to the world.
