FOREWORD BY the PRESIDENT, ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE DE HONG KONG
The Frères Lumière first ever movie in March 1895 will have a special meaning for our 46th edition of our Hong Kong French Film Festival. Indeed, this edition will feature the screening of "Lumière(s)", the wonderful documentary of Thierry Frémaux, who is as well General Delegate of the Cannes Festival. We also celebrate this year a series of new partnerships, and I am proud to announce that Mr Johnnie To has accepted to be the Ambassador of our French Cinepanorama and Jean-Pierre Melville retrospective. The Alliance Francaise de Hong Kong has gone through the history of French cinema for decades, almost as long as its own history. This shows the consistent and continuous involvement of our teams, artists, volunteers, partners, and sponsors over the time for which we at the Alliance Francaise de Hong Kong are most graceful. All this is the fruit of the great diversity of French and francophone cinema. This year selection should highlight the overall high standard quality of French cinema production. French cinema is celebrated for its esthetics, emotion and intelligence. The excellent image enjoyed by the French cinema worldwide is confirmed in Hong Kong where the acquisition of French films by local distributors has grown steadily in recent years. Our selection this year will bring you to an extraordinary journey through this richness, with the presence of various major artists and many special events. I wish you a wonderful 2017 festival!
