A new generation of French filmmakers, producers and actors is moving. French cinema is changing; bringing out a generation of impatient workaholics, eager to make films and to show them to the world. Some make clans and work together: write, shoot, perform; others are more solitary. But this generation has much in common: they all share the irrepressibleurge to create, whatever the conditions, whatever the financial resources they have. The “do it yourself” as a manifesto.

Talented scriptwriters who draw a fresh portrait of their generation, their promising talents were unveiled by the most prestigious film festivals all around the globe. They create roles for rising stars like Reda Kateb who gives outstanding performances in both Léa Fehner’s Silent Voices and Marianne Tardieu’s Insecure or Vincent Macaigne, described by some as the new Gérard Depardieu.

A new era of promising actresses also shines, in front and behind the camera: Sara Forestier and Adèle Haenel feature sisters in Suzanne by Katell Quillévéré, and Sophie Letourneurdirects her third film Gaby Baby Doll starring Lolitah Chammah.

The programme aim to present the diversity of their works: from the established filmmakers to newly discovered directors, first features always bold and creative, like the crowdfunded stylish thriller Fever by Raphaël Neal or the mesmerizing and daring journey offered by Fabianny Deschamps in New Territories, original documentaries, short-films that introduce up-and-coming actors and actresses currently lighting up screens.

A generation collectively united by one idea: freedom in cinema.
