Based on the short story “Julius Schmitke”, Schmitke blends mystery with comedy on a remote mystic land, exposing the inner world of an aging man who has a hard time coping with the world. Schmitke always believes there is something mysterious behind the bushes; he thinks that there is an unexplainable force deep inside the forest. One day, he is assigned to work in an ancient windmill in the Czech Republic near the Czech-German border. Something strange begins to happen, someone disappears and Schmitke can’t seem to make sense of the concept of existence anymore. His aging crisis finally meets its challenger.
