香港有籠屋劏房，北京也有超級地下城。在北京打工和地下室生活的永樂，一次不幸的工傷令他暫時失明，每天只好靠一條繩返回地面。同是北漂族的女伴小元，找不到工作交不到租，只能靠晚上跳鋼管舞維生；二人因地下室走在一起，重見光明後卻各奔前程。地上的村民老金連發夢也想得到重建的巨額保償金，卻在睡夢中先行離世，留下老婆獨守空宅迷茫的等待。能解決溫飽、租金、養老問題，地下室成為北京安居樂業的新選擇，當最初抱持的北京夢已逐漸褪色，殘酷的現實讓北漂族暗流心酸淚。出生京劇世家的宋鵬飛曾留學巴黎，異地物價高漲重建租房同樣難，這位八十後導演返回出生地，從不同的觀點拍出目前北漂人的心態。

Director Pengfei explores the “Chinese Dream” in this evocative portrait of China’s běipiāo, migrant workers living in Beijing without housing permits. Yong Le (Luo Wenjie) and Xiao Yun (Ying Ze) live in Beijing’s Underground City, a labyrinth of cheap housing converted from an old bomb shelter. The two work lesser jobs – Yong Le as a furniture scavenger and Xiao Yun as a pole dancer – while seeking better lives for themselves. When Yong Le is blinded in an accident, he finds a surprising guide in Xiao Yun. Meanwhile, old Lao Jin (Zhao Fuyu) seeks better terms from a land developer for his old suburban family home, while trying to relocate to new housing amidst Beijing’s rapidly-changing urban landscape.
