Synopsis

Set against Nazi occupation in the Netherlands in 1928, this is a real story of a couple's fight against discrimination, moralism, betrayal and fascism, all odds that one can imagine at its time. Rika, an independent mother of four struggling to break from her cheating husband, falls in love with her boarder Waldemar, a black student immigrant who is 17 years her junior. When Rika gets pregnant by Waldemar, her outraged ex-husband seizes the children and her landlord throws her out. She and Waldemar find a cheap room above a Jewish bar before being eventually relocated by the Nazis to a new place where they start to take in Jews on the run from deportation and hide them in the attic. The couple's son grows up to be a journalist and tells the tale of his parents' bravery.

故事簡介

本片由真人真事，同名暢銷小說改編而成，發生在納粹佔領的荷蘭。黑人學生Waldemar，備受歧視上不了大學。失婚婦人Rika因為丈夫不忠，毅然離家出走。來自兩個世界、兩種膚色的Rika和Waldemar分租房子，日久生情並誕下一子。一段不倫之戀受盡社會指責，一家三口被房東趕走，幸得猶太酒舖老闆收留，經營小店為生。然而納粹大軍壓境，自身難保的邊緣人對同樣受迫害的猶太人施以援手，小店成為逃難者的庇護站。可是紙包不了火，終能逃過納粹的魔爪嗎？
