At the dawn of a new era, aristocrat Prince of Salina (Burt Lancaster)realises he needs to plan for a way to survive the changes: by marrying off hisnephew (Delon) to a wealthy merchant's daughter (Claudia Cardinale). Lancaster,the leopard, is by all means the soul of the film, but young co-stars Delon andCardinale are not overshadowed.
