Teaching Sucks!(WY Retro)
Teaching Sucks!(WY Retro)
Since he was little, Mr. Lam has aspired to become a dedicated educator. After graduating from university, he thought that his dream would finally come true when he joins a secondary school. But three years into his dry, robotic teaching career, Mr. Lam’s aspirational personality has become jaded by a boring curriculum, paper grading and endless school meetings. Both Mr. Lam’s co-worker and close friend, Mr. Wong is the single father of a five-year-old boy. One day, the arrival of the beautiful and bright substitute teacher Miss Lee reignites the teachers’ passion for teaching. But when both Mr. Lam and Mr. Wong fall for Miss Lee, what will ensue?
The film’s first half finds humour in trivial matters, depicting the laid-back daily lives of cynical and jaded teachers without being didactic. When the story enters an office love triangle in the second half, chocolate beans are cleverly employed to convey affection and the teachers are ultimately reminded of their initial motivations for teaching, it reveals a romantic and sensitive side of Wilson Yip and his writers, Philip Kwok and Vincent Kok.
