Born amidst the anti-colonial riots of 1967, and named Author of the Year by the Hong Kong Book Fair during the turbulence of Occupy-Central 2014, Dung Kai-cheung has become Hong Kong's emerging voice in world literature. Film essayist Evans Chan (Datong: The Great Society, HKAFF 2011), offers an illuminating portrait of Dung, his lineage and the current state of the Hong Kong literary world. The film explores not only the challenge faced by a writer working in a so-called "cultural desert," but also a post-colonial people's search for its voice and place in Greater China and the world.
