Story: In Abbas Kiarostami’s film Ten, Amina Maher is a rage-fuelled 10-year-old boy who spends most of his screen time engaged in a vicious shouting match against his mother. Kiarostami probably never expected what was to come Amina would soon be subjected to years of sexual abuse by his paedophile uncle. Now a filmmaker based in Berlin, Maher intercuts snippets from Ten and an imaginary conversation with her mother while also shaving her body hair – thus ridding herself a masculinity she loathes.
