Synopsis

A simple DNA test leads Māori TV3 presenter, Nathan Rarere, and his screen partner, Samoan Oscar Kightley, to replicate the journey taken by their ancestors in reverse – beginning with the Cook Islands and Samoa, then Vanuatu and ending eventually in Taiwan. There they are amazed by what they discover.

About the Film and the Director

Made in Taiwan is a fascinating documentary of a journey full of emotion and surprises. Māori Nathan Rarere and Samoan Oscar Kightley send their DNA to Oxford laboratories to find out about their shared Polynesian ancestry.

Rarere and Kightley follow their genetic trail from Mahia to Rarotonga, from Samoa to Vanuatu, and finally to the hill tribes of Taiwan, and meet the indigenous people whose DNA they share through art, music, dance, and tradition.

Dan Salmon is an award-winning New Zealand documentary director and producer, having most recently won the Grand Prix du Jury and Prix du Public at the Festival International du Film Documentaire Océanien. His credits include high-end television programmes such as the 2050-What If? docu-drama series for TV3, and the authorial documentary Children of 1984.

Salmon has recently directed a documentary series on the history of New Zealand architecture, New Zealand At Home.

導演與製作

《台灣製造》記述了一個充滿感性和驚喜的旅程。這部精采的紀錄片源於尼頓和奧斯卡把他們的DNA送到牛津化驗所，發現了他們同樣有波利尼西亞血統。

兩人追蹤基因源頭，從一個島到另一個島，最終去到台灣南部山區，發現山地原住民不但跟他們有相同基因，而且藝術、音樂、舞蹈和習俗都不謀而合。

丹．沙文是新西蘭得獎記錄片導演兼製片，屢獲殊榮，最近奪得大洋國際電影節評審團大獎及最受觀眾歡迎影片獎。著名作品包括探討高科技的電視節目《2050-What If?》、一系列毛利電視第三台的紀實劇以及作者紀錄片《Children of 1984》。近作《New Zealand At Home》，記述新西蘭建築歷史。
