由1969年至1995年期間推出的《男人之苦》系列共有48集之多，乃山田最具代表性的作品。故事以寅次郎為中心，講這個只愛遊山玩水的戇直中年漢的旅途軼事、家事及感情事。寅大部份時間都在旅途中，他偶爾鳥倦回家，但總與家人大吵，然後又和好如初。他容易墮入情網，卻總是失戀而終，傷心欲絕又再次上路。反反覆覆，來來回回，但渥美清演的寅次郎出神入化，令人笑破肚皮，他與家人和「戀人」的感情每每觸動人心。系列自推出以來，寅次郎成為日本人最愛的電影人物，暱稱「Tora-san」。
寅每次都去不同的地方旅行，遇上不同的女神(日文稱Madonna)，當中只有淺丘瑠璃子演的莉莉破天荒四度登場，今次特別找來三部由她當「女神」的作品。相信大家看畢後，除了感受到寅的瀟灑、人間溫暖，還有莉莉的超凡魅力。
The most representative work of Yamada's career, the "Tora-san" series consists of 48 films, spanning the period from 1969 to 1995, and is the
world's longest theatrical series. The films revolve around the
romantic and domestic adventures in the travels of the middle-age
protagonist Tora. Whenever he grew tired of his constant travels
and returned home, he would unfailingly argue with his family,
though they always resolved their differences at the end. Tora
was easily smitten, but his love stayed unrequited; and with
a broken heart he would begin yet another journey. He had never
broken this pattern of romantic failure, but Atsumi Kiyoshi's
portrayal of Tora was so bittersweet that audiences are reduced
to tears of laughter as well as sorrow. Tora has since become
the most popular film character among Japanese audiences, who
affectionately called him "Tora-san".
During
his travels, Tora had encountered a series of lovely women -
called "Madonna" in
Japanese - that caught his fancies. Among them, only Asaoka
Ruriko has a recurring role in the series, playing the love interest
Lily in four of the films. Three of the films that featured
Lily
as the Madonna character have been showcased in this festival.
This is a chance to witness the free-spirited “Tora-san”, trials
of love and family, and the extraordinary charm of Lily. |

被譽為《男人之苦》系列中的顛峰之作。淺丘瑠璃子飾演的酒吧歌女莉莉繼第11集《寅次郎毋忘我》後第二度登場。寅次郎與離婚後的莉莉重遇，兩人今次感情突飛猛進，還經常手拖手逛街。正當各人以為寅和莉莉天生一對，慫恿他們共諧連理之際，寅卻狠狠地拒絕了這頭婚事，因為他相信：「莉莉是一隻季候鳥──受傷了回家休息，醫好了便展翅翱翔，留不低停不下──像我一樣。」無腳雀仔的鼻祖原來是寅次郎！
Considered the best film in the series,
Tora-san Meets the Songstress Again marked the second appearance
of Asaoka Ruriko as Lily, the club singer whom Tora encountered
in Tora-san's Forget Me Not. Love seems to have blossomed between
Tora and the now-divorced Lily, but contrary to the beliefs
of friends and family, marriage is not on the minds of the
lovers.

寅次郎收到莉莉從沖繩寄來的信，原來她在夜總會唱歌時暈倒入院，還說：「臨死前，很想見寅一面」。寅馬上趕到沖繩照顧莉莉，縱然闊別了五年，兩人的感情有增無減，莉莉休養期間，寅更隨傳隨到，旁人都以為他們是夫妻……淺丘瑠璃子演的莉莉第三度登場，叫寅再三考慮「結婚問題」。山田自言「這是我最愛的作品之一」，渥美清去世後，山田在《男人之苦》系列中只選了本片(加插新片段)推出特別版來紀念這位一代巨星。
Upon receipt of a letter from Lily telling
Tora that she would like to see him before she dies, Tora rushes
to Okinawa, where Lily has fainted during one of her performances.
Although five years has passed since they parted, the former
couple continues to care about each other, and Tora nurses
Lily to health. The personal favourite of Yamada Yoji , Tora-san's Tropical Fever was the only film re-released (with added scenes)
by the director to commemorate Atsumi Kiyoshi after the superstar's
death.

山田日後承認在開拍此片之前，已心諳渥美清的肺病步入末期，決定此章為最後一章，並安排由淺丘瑠璃子演的莉莉送寅次郎踏上人生的最後一程。分別15年後，兩人於如詩如畫的奄美大島重逢，感情依舊，鬥氣繼續，沒完沒了似的。正如山田所想，雖然系列必須完結，但始終不想為寅次郎的故事／人生劃上句號。結局如常開放，代表寅一直繼續他的旅程，日本人依然有夢。
公映後翌年，渥美清病逝，享年68歲，本片亦成為他的遺作。
Yamada
knew before production began that Atsumi's health has deteriorated
to such an extent that Tora-san to the
Rescue would be the last film in the series. He decided to let
Lily accompany Tora on his last trip. The lovers reunite after
fifteen years in the picturesque Amami O Shima, and the affections
as well as the bickering remain. Although the series must come
to its conclusion, Yamada has deliberately left the film's ending
open, so as not to let the curtain fall on "Tora-san". Atsumi Kiyosh passed away at the age of 68 in the year following the film's
release, making this film his last.
