The final installment of the “Glaciation Trilogy” is a fictional recounting of the killing of three people in a bank on December 23rd 1993 by a 19 year-old student, who subsequently shoots himself in the head. The 71 fragmentary scenes show a number of seemingly unconnected people and events over five separate days from 12th October to the events of December 23rd, where their paths intersect. 71 Fragments is a moral and philosophical meditation on the banality of evil and our nominal complicity, in a world in which a television news report on Michael Jackson is squeezed between horrors from Bosnia and Somalia. It marks a departure from the longitudinal studies of a single family as seen in the first two parts of the trilogy and contextualises the violent outburst is instead contextualised within a cross-section of society.
