足足等了九年，日本動畫大師押井守終於完成了萬眾期待的《攻殼機動隊》續篇。
公元2032年的日本，人類已進入了極端電腦化的時代，人體功能漸漸被數碼科技所取締，身體亦漸漸機械化。人類與「活機械人」的界線愈來愈模糊，甚至有人類已經忘記了自己是人類的身份。巴圖就是其中一個「活機械人」，他的軀體四肢全是人造的，剩下來的「人性」部份只有腦袋，以及腦海中一個女子的記憶。
一天，少女機械人發生叛變，把擁有她們的人類殺死。身為國家反恐刑警的巴圖負責調查此事，誰知他的腦袋突然被「黑客」入侵，令事件更撲朔迷離。在追查的過程中，他甚至質疑「為何人類需要機械人？」就在此時，他腦海記憶中的女子赫然出現眼前！原來她就是上集失蹤了的素子，驚人的真相即將揭盅……

Made nine years after the groundbreaking animation classic GHOST IN THE SHELL, Oshii's cyberpunk journey continues in this sequel.
The story begins in 2032, when Japan is inhabited by the dwindling race of humans, purely mechanical androids, and cyborgs. Like public security offier Batou, his body is fully artificial and the only remnants left of his humanity are traces of his brain and the memories of a woman called Motoko. One day, he is sent to investigate a series of murder. The perpetrators are apparently the gynoids - androids made in the form of young women, used as sex dolls - that have malfunctioned. Batou thinks he is getting closer to the truth but it's until he runs into Motoko that he knows the truth is far beyond his knowledge......
