2003年SARS爆發時,內地知名畫家劉小東曾赴三峽,創作了畫作「三峽大移民」。2005年,劉小東再赴三峽創作,請來十二位工人當模特兒,更邀請當紅導演賈樟柯一同前往拍攝紀錄片。2006年,劉小東飛赴曼谷,邀請了十二位來自熱帶國家的女子為他的畫作當模特兒,賈樟柯也欣然同行,紀錄他的創作點滴。變動中的中國,一向是賈樟柯鏡頭下的聚焦風光,今回首次執導紀錄片,沒有《世界》中人心的蒼凉,多了點《站台》的感性筆觸。總之,劉小東的畫筆、賈樟柯的鏡頭,盡情刻劃了驛動中的中國民情。
Fengjie, China, 2005. Painter Liu Xiaodong visited the Three Gorges area to create his oil painting series Warm Bed. Twelve local deconstruction workers became the models on his live sketch. Bangkok, Thailand, 2006. Under the Warm Bed series, Liu invited Twelve tropical women as the models on his next painting. Both cities have their own river running across the city centre, galloping forward and never return. Director Jia Zhang-ke's first trial on documentary reveals his sensitivity towards the unsettling mind of the lost souls in contemporary Chinese society, but less hollowing than his highly acclaimed THE WORLD this time.
