是枝裕和1962年生於日本東京,87年於早稻田大學文藝學科畢業後,加入「TV
Man Union」,拍攝紀錄片為主,題材多具社會性,充滿人文主義。95年,他執導了首部電影《幻之光》,在威尼斯及芝加哥等影展上載譽而歸;之後執導了《下一站,天國》、《這麼近,那麼遠》;04年的《誰知赤子心》奪得康城影展最佳男主角獎;最新作品《花の武者》初次挑戰古裝片類型。
是次回顧展,將放映是枝裕和的全部長片和多齣早期最具代表性作品。

With NOBODY KNOWS (2004), Hirokazu
Kore-eda shaped the cinematic work that bore
the youngest “Best Actor” in Cannes Film Festival history.
To watch Kore-eda's films is to tread along the valleys
and vales of humanity. With a steadfast pace, we are acquainted
with people and events that Kore-eda is concerned with.
Never bombasting the audience with melodrama, his works
testified that life's most vivid moments were discovered
in the most ordinary of days. While we live our own lives,
Kore-eda inspires us to savour the gains and losses in
our own life journeys, and to reflect on the essence of
life. Hirokazu Kore-eda (Born
1962, Tokyo). After graduating from Waseda University
with a degree in Literature in 1987, he joined TV Man
Union and has since directed many documentaries for television.
His first feature MABOROSI won him the awards at Venice
and Chicago. Followed by AFTER LIFE and DISTANCE, he continues
to explore themes of memory/death and loss with the intersection
of documentary and fictional narratives in his fourth
feature NOBODY KNOWS. Kore-eda's latest film is HANA,
which marks his first samurai drama.
This retrospective will highlight all of Kore-eda's full
length features as well as his earlier documentaries.
