Trashy Treasure

One's trash could be another's treasure, and the statement underlines the fact that "trash" is really a relative concept. Hoping to break people's stereotypes about rubbish, Hogan Lee began to collect and recycle trash as props for the low-budget films he worked on, and made this short to reflect on the way we deal with trash and what it says about our civilization.

Architect Shigeru Ban is known for his unique use of materials, his paper-pipe structured houses having housed refugees from all around the world. In May 12, 2008, the Wenchuan Earthquake broke out, resulting in two teaching buildings in Chengdu becoming derelict. Hopeful that his paper houses could help, Ban traveled to Chengdu. But his journey came with numerous obstacles – weather, communication and also intolerance made things difficult for Ban's students and the Chinese volunteers. Filmmakers Fan Popo and Zheng Xiao chronicled Ban's journey, discovering that with a common goal, even the most difficult and unexpected adversities can be overcome.
