After flirting briefly with retirement, director Lee Joon-ik (The King and the Clown) returned with the most emotionally poignant film of his career. Collecting many awards in its native South Korea, Hope is named after its heroine, a young girl who gets lured into an alleyway one rainy morning and sexually abused. In the face of wounds that will last a lifetime, Hope and her anguished parents must find the strength to cope, recover and bring the perpetrator to justice. Though acutely devastating, the sensitive human drama finds a silver lining in the journey of healing that brings a little girl back from trauma through the love and support of her family and community.
