In a Takeshi Kitano yakuza film there is only evil vs. evil. The actor-director's triumphant return to the yakuza genre shocked this year's Cannes audiences with bloody violence that begets even more violence. After a trilogy of films exploring his role as an artist, Kitano is back in full form, depicting a complex gang war filled with men in black suits, unexpected dark humor, and a particularly disturbing way to use dental equipment. In other words, Kitano-san is back.
