Adam works at a hospital mortuary, cleaning dead bodies while collecting the ID tags off their toes. The disenfranchised come to the hospital for treatment but leave inadequately serviced or refused care. In the hospital lobby, Adam befriends a young woman who sells her body to pay for her father's treatment. But when he tries to help them get health insurance, he finds that she and her father lack proper ID – on paper and also metaphorically, Indonesian society having ground these people into a nameless, powerless lower class. A satiric, disturbing and surprising work, IDENTITY deservedly won four prizes at Indonesia's Oscars, the Citra Awards.
