Always the bad boy of Nikkatsu, Seijin Suzuki was ordered to make something conventional out of BRANDED TO KILL, the story of a rice-sniffing contract killer (Joe Shishido) who becomes a target for assassination himself. Naturally, Suzuki went the opposite direction and turned in a film so unconventional that Suzuki was summarily fired from the studio and eventually blacklisted in the industry. The film has since become a cult classic around the world, appreciated by fans of Suzuki's absurd, visually hypnotic style. Even over 50 years later, BRANDED TO KILL still makes for a surreal viewing experience you won't soon forget. |
