男歡女愛是永恆的電影主題，落在大師手裡卻呈現另一番風貌。奇斯洛夫斯基作品裡的男生大多羞澀內歛，女性卻獨立敢言，走在一起，往往產生奇妙的化學作用。《要求》(1967/17')是學生作品，故事描述一班年輕人一次到湖邊旅行，其中一名少男在森林裡遇到一對男女，深情地凝視著女孩，與二十年後《情誡》中的偷窺青年遙相呼應。《人行地下道》(1973/30')講述男教師帶學生到首都旅遊，趁機探訪在地下行人道商鋪當櫥窗設計師的前妻。夜深，櫥窗外三教九流的人群川流不息，店內的男女則繾綣忘休，對比強烈。紀錄片《初戀》(1974/52')長時間追訪一對年輕準父母──男的二十，女的只有十七──如何克服來自四面八方的壓力，堅守互愛，在看似不可能的環境下組織小家庭。
The love between men and women is an oft-explored subject in cinema, but Kieslowski gives it his distinctive stamp. Interestingly the men in his films are often shy and withdrawn, but the women know exactly what they want and go after it with vigour. Concert of Requests (1967/17') is Kieslowski's student film while studying at the Lodz Film School. It depicts a group of rowdy youths who go on a trip to a lake. One of them encounters a young couple in the woods. His longing gaze at the young woman echoes in the lonely voyeur in A Short Film About Love twenty years later. In Pedestrian Subway (1973/30') a primary school teacher goes to the capital on a field trip with his students and takes the opportunity to visit his ex-wife, who works as a decorator in a shop located in a pedestrian subway. Late at night, the subway is filled with bums and drunks, while inside, in the public/private space of the shop, the two play out their resentments and passions. First Love (1974/52') is a documentary on a young couple in love: the boy is twenty, the girl only seventeen. The film depicts how they expect their first baby while dealing with enormous pressure from the outside world.
