話的退休法官約瑟，她對他的行為不以為然，但卻動了同情之心，兩人的關係微妙而不尋常，既針鋒相對亦同時彼此關懷。「紅」的博愛精神正是要人放下批判，以愛相待。另一方面約瑟與年輕法官奧古士丁是另一版本的兩生花，經歷跟他年輕時一樣的情傷。奧古士丁與維朗丁孤寂的生命軌跡互相交錯，片末一幕兩人在輪船意外中(與《藍》、《白》的主角一起)奇蹟地劫後餘生，暗示宿命得以扭轉，生命在絕境中透露曙光。
《紅》的顏色、燈光、場面及鏡頭調度、音效和配樂等元素配合得天衣無縫，為奇斯洛夫斯基的電影事業劃上一個完美的句號。

Muse Irène Jacob makes a welcome return as Valentine, a part-time model who accidentally encounters a retired judge, Joseph, and discovers that he is in the habit of monitoring his neighbour's phone conversations. Valentine is morally offended, yet rather than turning away in disgust, she views the older man with pity and love. The ideal of fraternity explored in this film implies letting go of one's judgments and accepting others with an open heart, as Valentine does. Meanwhile, a young judge, Augustine, is living a life that echoes Joseph's thirty years before. The ending scene, which brings together the leads from Blue and White suggests that hope and redemption is possible. Kieslowski's mastery of film language is unequalled, and his flawless use of colour, lighting, mise-en-scene, camera movement, sound and music in Red makes it the perfect swansong to a brilliant career.
