別以為奇斯洛夫斯基只懂說深奧哲理，原來也有浪漫柔情一面。波蘭裔髮型師卡洛被法籍妻子要求離婚，只因他未能滿足她的床上需要。一無所有的卡洛回到老家，決心發奮圖強向錢看，在改革開放的波蘭殺出血路，轉眼成為富豪。對紅顏念念不忘的他，不惜裝死以巨額遺產引她到波蘭相見，但其實計中有計，前妻被嫁禍，鋃鐺入獄。片末卡洛含淚遙望獄中的她，與開場一幕法庭戲首尾呼應──他所做的一切不為報復，而是要她也感受失去至愛之痛。「白」所代表的平等並非法律上的概念，而是人與人的對等相處。全片洋溢的(黑色)幽默與《藍》的哀傷及《紅》的莊嚴構成有趣的對比。

Kiesklowski shows his softer side in one of his most romantic films. Polish hairdresser Karol is divorced by his French wife Dominique because of his inability to perform sexually. Left penniless in Paris, he returns to Poland and embarks on a ruthless get-rich-quick path. In an economically reformed Poland, anything is possible, and he soon accumulates substantial wealth, which he uses to lure Dominique by faking his own death and leaving her the sole heir in his will. He sets up a trap that would eventually land her in jail, yet he does not do it for revenge but so that she, too, experiences the loss of a loved one. The equality 'white' represents is not an empty legal concept but a parity of sentiment, without which love is impossible. The humourous tone of the film forms an interesting contrast with the melancholy of Blue and the solemnity of Red.
