Bengali architect Rahul (Sudip Mukherjee) returns to Kolkata to a soulless construction job and also his long-waiting girlfriend Paoli (Paoli Dam). Rahul also returns to begin a much-delayed search: for his long lost, possibly mad brother (Sumeet Thakur), who dwells in the forest, far from the urban cityscape but not from the invasive presence of man. Six years after winning the Camera d'Or for his debut feature THE FORSAKEN LAND, Sri Lankan filmmaker Vimukthi Jayasundara turns his thoughtful gaze towards India with MUSHROOMS, a dreamlike exploration of how social forces shape our culture, our environment and perhaps our very blood. |
